Acetone
This widely used solvent is very strong and evaporates
very fast. In addition to reducing paint, it is excellent
for cleaning glue.
Mineral Spirits
This very popular solvent is slow to evaporate and
it is low in strength. It is often used to thin house paints.
It is excellent for industrial applications when low strength
is desired.
MEK
Similar to Acetone, but not quite as strong and it
does not evaporate as fast.
Toluene
Although it is widely used as a solvent, Toluene
has low strength and is excellent for dissolving many synthetic
resins. It is one of the main ingredients in lacquer and has
a high rate of evaporation.
Xylene
Similar to Toluene in strength but with a slower
but with a slower evaporation rate.
Methanol
(Methyl Alcohol) Methanol is not a widely used industrial
cleaner. It has more specific applications than other popular
solvents like Acetone, Toluene, Xylene, MEK, and Mineral Spirits.
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
This is also an alcohol, but unlike Methanol, it
is non-poisonous. It is growing in popularity in industry
and is often asked for by name.
100 Solvent
A strong, aromatic, slow-evaporating solvent widely
used in industry.
VM&P
A widely used solvent. Can be used when seeking a
faster evaporating and weaker product than PC90. Recommended
for final wash prior paint.
